Product Feature – Reclaimed

blank

At one point in history, a certain Louis XIII turned a humble two-story hunting lodge a few kilometres southwest of Paris into a chateau. Years later, his successor, Louis XIV decided more was needed. So bit by bit, year after year, rooms and wings and terraces were added, art and trophies were hung, and the gardens were enlarged. It became more than a place for quiet reverie. It turned into a place of ceremony, a place to entertain; it turned into a palais at Versailles.

As the nobility’s taste grew richer, the Palace of Versailles grew too. When the French Revolution came and the nobility went, the palace still stood. Now, with a country’s history etched into stone and marble, it stands as a museum. Now, representing the rise and fall of an era, perhaps, spectres of bygone residents still roam the halls at Versailles.

The Journey of Curating Historic French White Oak by Khayeri Flooring

blank

Rich in history, reclaimed wood is wood that has been used for buildings and structures from the 18th to the early 20th century. Reclaimed wood is recycled and reused to meet today’s ever-growing need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

Today’s reclaimed wood emerges from a time when wood was in abundance, both in North America and Europe, and was used as a principal building material.

The preservation of our beautiful environment is what the Khayeri Flooring brand stands for. Khayeri’s use of reclaimed wood is just one of the many sustainable initiatives we have implemented into our practices.

Reclaimed harwood floors have become a growing popular, and luxurious rustic design element used for commercial spaces. Aged reclaimed wood is very durable and is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas due its tight grain. This makes the material more resistant and hard-wearing, than newly harvested wood.

White Oak is a popular choice for reclaimed wood in Europe due to its abundance. Featuring a true artisanal hand-finish that embodies the aged, rustic sensibilities of a storied French manor, the Reclaimed Series features three-hundred-year-old European White Oak sourced from rare historic chateaus, farm houses, public buildings, and rail roads throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

A reclaimed wooden floor makes a bold and luxurious statement. As well as demonstrates immaculate taste and a love for the natural character of wood. Not only does it exude great taste in design, but it also shows your commitment to environmental matters.

Worship the ground you walk in and enjoy modern luxury while embracing cherished history in your design with Khayeri Flooring.

Seeing is truly believing with Khayeri Flooring. Discover, feel, and experience true artisanal craftsmanship behind our Chateau collection.

DID YOU KNOW? – When to Order?

blank

Did you know that typically engineered wood floors, due to their custom-manufacturing nature need to be ordered and installed before your kitchen?

Engineered wood flooring is structurally more stable than solid wood. While this translates into reduced shrinking and expanding (making it easier to install and maintain), you still do need to install your floors before the kitchen.
This is to ensure the wood has room to breathe.

blank

Since our wood is custom-manufactured to your specifications, it needs to be installed first to account for the demands placed on it and to let it settle comfortably into the floor. With over 17 years of experience with multi-unit and high-end custom residential projects, Khayeri Flooring knows that design starts from the ground up.

A Trip Down Memory Lane: The Nordic Collection

blank

Deep on the Scandinavian forest floor, you’ll find a few winding trails that lead you into the thick canopy of trees that fall above you. You walk with the sound of twigs and foliage breaking under your step, the trees whispering the histories of Norse gods: Odin and Rind, Fjorgyn and Saga sit, listening to their legacies. You walk further, the landscape changes: where there were rocks, now rivers, the sky turns leaf green. The sun is left to peep through gaps, its light is fleeting. The sound of birdsong grows faint. Standing there in the Norwegian skog, the green sky above and the familiar floor that led you in below, you’re completely immersed.

It is from this rich, enchanting history that Khayeri Flooring created the Palace Collection. A display of extravagant opulence, the Palace Collection features old world European craftsmanship, each plank an artisanal masterpiece. Custom-made in the Netherlands, this collection features the ultimate structural support with 100% Marine Birch backing topped with premium, sustainable old-growth French White Oak.

In the true spirit of the Kings of Versailles, who requested materials from across the country for their workers, who then had to overcome the structural and technological challenges of their time, Khayeri Flooring’s imported, luxury hardwood flooring and artisanal hand-finish treatments, evoke the same sense of elaborate beauty, regal perfection and mortal ingenuity. The Palace Collection boasts extra-wide and extra-long planks with warm and neutral tones that make any space feel like home. Hand-selected to favour wood with the fewest small knots, the result is a more consistent, cleaner look, with less variation between planks.

The Nordic Collection’s inspiration comes from these sustainable Scandinavian and Baltic forests from which our luxury hardwood floors are sourced. As an homage to the region and its hazy, abundant forests, we highlight the natural beauty of the wood through our sanded smooth and lightly-brushed finishes. The result speaks for itself: aesthetically vivid and beautifully natural, the collection captures the spirit of Scandinavia.

There’s also a distinct affinity for minimalism and functionality that characterizes the region. That clean refrain is brought out in light and neutral tones, with a unique colour selection, hand-selected to favour wood without knots. With little variation between planks, the Nordic Collection pulls a space together, providing the perfect backdrop against which to build a modern interior. The two-tone designs, allow for creative flexibility, imbue an ethereal, airy quality to any living space, and enhance the grain of the natural hardwood. Made with the highest structurally stable core support, the Nordic Collection is maintenance free – just like a Scandinavian forest.

Khayeri Flooring captures a story and an emotion. We bring the nostalgia of a distant memory to every interior with our luxury hardwood floors, through which, art imitates the nature it comes from. The purpose of the Nordic Collection’s wide plank flooring was to have Scandinavian serenity reign supreme. French White Oak or European White Ash, together with 8” wide and 84 ¼” long planks, accentuate the wood and create an effortless sense of balance that is both timeless and beautiful. Wide plank flooring enhances the size of the space, provides a feeling of harmony, and with fewer joints across your floor, gives an interior a life of its own.

In every interior, design starts from the ground up. The visual tone is set by the flooring with everything else serving to compliment and emphasize that foundation. At Khayeri, we know the importance a floor can have in inspiring a space, allowing it to take shape and taking you on a journey, as if you were walking down a winding trail. The Nordic Collection does that by bringing Scandinavia, and memories of it, to you.

Underneath It All Is A Pattern

blank

Patterns are everywhere: a patchwork quilt, a checked shirt, the way farmers plant their crops, the way cities are moulded into grids, history and mathematics, the predictability of behaviour and the rhythm of breathing. If you look close enough, you can even find them in a series of seemingly unconnected events.

From the natural and artificial, to the metaphysical, patterns are how we make sense of the world and often, patterns are how the world presents itself to us

At Khayeri, flooring patterns are how we present the character of a country, its people and its history. There’s a touch of sophistication, an old-world, European elegance that is brought to you – and at the same time, you get taken there.

Nine different patterns bring nine different feelings; nine different memories.

blank

Chevron

Etched into the wood, lines extend out from the middle at angles, almost as if taking flight. The shade varies as does the texture; capturing methodical movement. Like a bird in the sky.

blank

herringbone

Similar to Chevron only wilder and more unkempt, the pattern of wood extends from the middle but one on top of another, jostling for position; wanting to be seen. It’s darker, more commanding.

blank

Versailles

Crisscrossing, sometimes above, sometimes below, Versailles is an ode to the palace from which it takes its inspiration. It has an authority to it that the dark tones seem to agree with.

blank

Castel

Castel captures the artistry that runs through France: pattern lies on top of pattern, the wood’s natural coloring resembling the drip of an artist’s paintbrush. Beautifully careless.

blank

variance

Variance stands strong, upright, regal. The blemishes and textures of the wood visible. The pattern: two bold, horizontal lines meeting in the middle, in union. Broodingly dark.

blank

empire

Understated elegance and quiet confidence. An empire doesn’t shout out its authority or the extent of its reach; it doesn’t need to. When you step in it, you know.

blank

chateau

When you think of a chateau you picture a little house, quietly tucked away behind trees, on a hill somewhere in the country. Chateau’s pattern camouflages into the wood in much the same way. You’ll see it and it’ll welcome you in.

blank

Chantilly

Even in chaos there is calm, in madness there is method. Chantilly is a patchwork of wood in different direction, different patterns, blemishes and tones. And it works.

blank

Kruis

Translating to “cross” Krius’ pattern takes from its name. With the color so light, calming and quaint, the more you look at it, the more it starts to speak.

Sustainability: We Only Live So Long

blank

Oak trees grow one millimeter a year. Each tree takes an average of 180 years to reach its final growth stage. It takes generations to reach adulthood. This long-drawn coming-of-age is why the oak tree lends itself to such veneration and respect. It has many names: The Mighty Oak, The Wise Oak, the King of the Forest.

blank

It has, and will, see more than any of us can lay claim to.

The Oak has its place in legend as well. Ancient Celts used to honour the Oak for its endurance and noble presence. The Greeks believed that the same way Zeus’ voice was heard in thunder; it was heard in the rustling of oak leaves.

Should something so grand, so steeped in mystery and veneration, be given mere fleeting consideration?

At Khayeri, we truly value wood as one of nature’s best and most extraordinary materials, and our outstanding European-engineered white oak flooring collections directly reflect those beliefs. Khayeri uses rare and beautiful hardwood solely for the surface layer. In order to be environmentally-friendly, the support layer is made using a quicker growth wood – like Baltic Birch or Nordic Pine – or high-density fibreboard for structural stability. We capture nature’s beauty while minimizing our ecological footprint and letting the trees continue on in deep slumber.

But sustainability covers more than footprint; protecting the air we breathe is equally as important.

Khayeri offers many sophisticated wood finishes including natural oils, pigmented oils and aluminum oxide finishes amongst others. These finishes are completely free of Volatile Organic Compounds. A VOC-free finish means that the hardwood floor does not produce any solvents and other compounds that evaporate into the air and contribute to the formation of an unclean and unhealthy environment. Throughout our process, from sourcing the wood through till the finishes, Khayeri is committed to protecting natural resources and the environment.

In addition to flooring, a sustainable home needs to have a reduced energy consumption. It’s important to install quality windows that provide excellent insulation. Window coverings, blinds drapes and carpets are all excellent thermal insulators.

It’s about cherishing the ground we all share.
Nature is the true artist and at Khayeri, the genius is in the design.

Inspiration deserves our deepest, highest respect.

It is from these near-everlasting sources that Khayeri finds, and provides, inspiration. Even in the initial stages, Khayeri’s process abides to strict standards. The coda always in sight.
